Guided Self-Assembly of Au Nanocluster Arrays Electronically Coupled to Semiconductor Device Layers

چکیده
We report the controlled deposition of close-packed monolayer arrays of 5 nm diameter Au clusters within patterned regions on GaAs device layers, thus demonstrating guided self-assembly on a substrate which can provide interesting semiconductor device characteristics. Uniform nanometer scale ordering of the clusters is achieved by a chemical selfassembly process, while micron scale patterning is provided by a soft lithographic technique. Scanning tunneling microscope imaging and current-voltage spectroscopy indicate the Au nanoclusters are strongly coupled electronically into the underlying semiconductor substrate while exhibiting only weak electronic coupling in the lateral plane.

Electronic Properties of Metallic Nanoclusters on Semiconductor Surfaces: Implications for Nanoelectronic Device Applications
We review current research on the electronic properties of nanoscale metallic islands and clusters deposited on semiconductor substrates. Reported results for a number of nanoscale metal-semiconductor systems are summarized in terms of their fabrication and characterization. In addition to the issues faced in large-area metal-semiconductor systems, nano-systems present unique challenges in both...
متن کاملInterface and contact structures for nanoelectronic devices using assemblies of metallic nanoclusters, conjugated organic molecules and chemically stable semiconductor layers
Self-assembly (‘building’) approaches can provide well-controlled structures and assemblies at the nanometer scale, but typically do not provide the specific structures or functionalities required for robust nanoelectronic circuits. One approach to realize high-density nanoelectronic circuits is to combine self-assembly techniques with more conventional semiconductor device and circuit approach...
متن کاملConfiguration-controlled Au nanocluster arrays on inverse micelle nano-patterns: versatile platforms for SERS and SPR sensors.
Nanopatterned 2-dimensional Au nanocluster arrays with controlled configuration are fabricated onto reconstructed nanoporous poly(styrene-block-vinylpyridine) inverse micelle monolayer films. Near-field coupling of localized surface plasmons is studied and compared for disordered and ordered core-centered Au NC arrays. Differences in evolution of the absorption band and field enhancement upon A...
متن کاملNanoelectronic device applications of a chemically stable GaAs structure
We report on nanoelectronic device applications of a nonalloyed contact structure which utilizes a surface layer of low-temperature grown GaAs as a chemically stable surface. In contrast to typical ex situ ohmic contacts formed on n-type semiconductors such as GaAs, this approach can provide uniform contact interfaces which are essentially planar injectors, making them suitable as contacts to s...
متن کاملThe fabrication of plasmonic Au nanovoid trench arrays by guided self-assembly.
Metallic nanoscale voids can support both localized and propagating plasmons and form plasmonic crystals. However, constructing 1D arrays is crucial for producing plasmonic circuits. In this paper we report the first experimental evidence of plasmons in templated linear arrays of self-assembled structures. Single and multilayer arrays of gold voids have been fabricated by self-assembly of sub-m...
